A Reuters report, ‘British nursing homes in crisis as deaths mount‘, reveals that UK local authorities reporting the largest number of care home deaths per 100 beds were all located in London with the exception of Broxbourne.
Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney and Southwark were among those local authorities reporting the highest number of deaths.
According to Reuters during the week ending May 1 more people died in nursing and care homes than hospitals in the UK.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has refused to release figures for deaths in individual homes citing privacy reasons.
(Note to CQC: Dead people aren’t too fussed about privacy, those who survive them who wish to understand the reason for this catastrophic loss of life need the data.)
