  1. I am sure the Chinese Government will see that Tower Hamlets Council has condemned their actions and immediately relent to the pressure.

    1. An unwelcome if expected flippant response. Next time your part of the borough has problems and needs support who are you going to ask? Nobody has any illusions of what a council can do, however the residents of the borough can do a lot, even if that is making it awkward for the Peoples Republic of China to build their new UK embassy – although refusing them planning application would be ideal IMHO. If in the 1930s we had been made aware of the creation of the death camps in Nazi Germany would you have just stood by and said nothing?

      FIRST THEY CAME
      By Martin Niemöller

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
      Then they came for me
And there was no one left
      To speak out for me.
