The below is the full unedited text of a open letter to Ukrainian Ambassador to UK published by Tower Hamlets Council on Thursday 3rd March 2022.
“We are writing to you on behalf of the residents of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and on a cross-party basis, to convey our borough’s solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian people continue to show incredible courage, dignity and resilience in the face of Putin’s invasion. We have seen many reports of individual and collective acts of bravery in defence of your nation’s freedom and democracy, as well as heartbreaking reports about those who have tragically lost their lives because of Putin’s actions.
Tower Hamlets has a long and proud history of standing shoulder to shoulder against those who would seek to divide us, and we want you to know that we are united in our support for your country and its people, and united in our condemnation of Putin’s onslaught.
Tower Hamlets stands with Ukraine, and we will offer what support we can to your country and its people during these dark weeks and months.”
Yours sincerely,
Mayor John Biggs, Leader of the Labour Group, Councillor Peter Golds, Leader of the Conservative Group, Councillor Kabir Ahmed, Leader of the Aspire Group and Councillor Rabina Khan, Liberal Democrats.
